Abstract images that create imaginary worlds continue to inspire me. These images are made from Golden acrylic polymer mediums and gels, fluid acrylics, paint, airbrush colors, powdered pigments, and acrylic gel skins with printed photo images.

I started making art using the description and feelings she shared from that dream. Mary’s dream, turtles, fish and other natural images continue to inspire me. This image is made from acrylic crackle paste, paint, stencil, gels and glazes with a printed photo image of a sea turtle on an acrylic skin. I use photos in my acrylic work as skins and to make stencils. The gold figures made from stencils are derived from the natural shapes on the shell of a Hawaiian Clam species, Lioconcha hieroglyphica. The markings of the clamshells look like a form of written symbols or hieroglyphs. They are part of a series I am making called The Language of Clams. The floating pigments and gray white transparent acrylic bloom create shapes reminiscent of microbial and planktonic life in the ocean. The crackle reminds me of dried lakebeds and ocean floors from long ago and the memories they must contain of all that lived there. I have always felt at one with nature and the universe when diving in the ocean and enjoy sharing my feelings in these images.

New Arrival

My wife, Mary, had a dream about swimming with Sea Turtles. I started making art using the description and feelings she shared from that dream. Mary’s dream, turtles, fish and other natural images continue to inspire me. Although I intended to add the turtle to the original as a printed acrylic skin, the canvas was destroyed in the process. I had already scanned the acrylic canvas so I was able to complete the idea in the computer. This image is made from Golden acrylic polymer medium, fluid acrylics, airbrush colors, and gel with a computer added photo image of a sea turtle. I have always felt at one with nature and the universe when diving in the ocean and want to share my feelings through these images.

Turtles, fish and other natural images continue to inspire me. I love painting and looking into an imaginary world. This is part of a series I'm working on about the language of clams. The characters in the piece are derived from shapes on the shell of Lioconcha hieroglyphica, a South Pacific Clam. It looks like writing and made me wonder what their language would look like/feel like (happy of course). This image is made from acrylic crackle paste, paint, gels and glazes with gold acrylic appliqués made with a stencil from the shapes on the clamshell.

Minneapolis Spirit

I have been making art using memories and feelings from dreams and my life and childhood. Natural images continue to inspire me as well as the city of Minneapolis where I live. This is a mixed media collage of giclée printed images on mulberry paper with leaf inclusions, watercolor, and acrylic fish appliqués.

Turtles, fish and other natural images continue to inspire me. As a 12 year old I use to wade into a waist deep swamp pond near my home in St. Louis to collect newts, frog eggs, glass larvae and fairy shrimps and to study the life there. That pond has since been drained to be part of a housing development. This image is made from acrylic crackle paste, paint, gels and glazes and acrylic fish appliqués made from a stencil. The blue/gray transparent acrylic bloom creates a shape reminiscent of microbial and planktonic life in lakes and oceans as well as a feeling of moonrise.
