South on Broadway

This was inspired, as most of my art is, by a cellphone photo I took. I was crossing either Spring or Prince Street when I snapped a similar image looking South on Broadway. I moved some of the pedestrians around in the painting and at least 2 friends commented that the painting has an "Abbey Road" album cover feel to it though I did not see that until they saw it first.

Collegetown Bagels

This is a typical scene outside Collegetown Bagels at the foot of the Cornell University campus. I started this painting (from a photo) one day during the open studio weekends for the Greater Ithaca Art Trail. Like many of my paintings that I ultimately like, this one started as a lark, with no intention of "getting it right."

Tourists Outside My Studio (Study)

This painting was a study for a larger painting I made from a composite photograph of tourists on the Ithaca Commons. This is one of those paintings I didn't expect anyone to see and, as a result, it took on a looser brush stroke quality that I ultimately liked.

Come for the Gorges, Stay for the Hot Dogs

This is one of a set of 4 cityscape paintings depicting the area around the downtown Ithaca Commons. This scene depicts Lou Casiniti, or "Lou, the Hot Dog Guy" as he is affectionately known on the downtown Ithaca Commons.

Big Man on Campus

This is a painting of the statue of Andrew Dixon White as he surveys McGraw Tower, the Arts Quad and the campus of Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. While the university bears the name of its first and most famous benefactor, Cornell was truly the dream of White who envisioned "air castles" of learning. His statue sits today opposite that of Ezra Cornell on the Arts Quad on campus.

I painted this image pretty much "as is" from a cellphone photo I took through the sunroof of our car looking backwards. Hence, the cars are heading toward me. I liked this painting enough to put it on the cover of my 2007 wall calendar, available at edmarion.com

Downtown Ithaca

Since I've worked in downtown Ithaca, I've been fascinated by the twin spires on Seneca Street. This view captures the church towers along with Clinton Hall and the DeWitt Mall. I have a FedEx fetish so I threw a FedEx truck into the mix just for fun.

I love this view of two church spires facing each other on Seneca Street in Ithaca, New York. This is now the third time I've painted these steeples.

What Sim Sees

This is one of a set of 4 cityscape paintings depicting the area around the downtown Ithaca Commons. The "Sim" of the title is Sim Redmond of The Sim Redmond Band. I took a photo of the band from behind as they played on the Bernie Milton Pavilion. The reference photo gave me the luxury of painting this scene in the comfort of my studio rather than on site.

Backstage

There must be some part of me that wants to be a rock star. I enjoy painting from the band's perspective because on some level I just want to be with them up on stage and because and I love listening to music while I paint.

Outdoor Concert

I was inspired to make this painting from a photo I saw in the New York Times about a music festival in Telluride. I searched the web for some other photos of the event and then "extended the band" by mashing some reference photos to add some musicians who were not on stage.
