Sharing a Sunny Perch

I love watching the birds come and go about their daily lives! They are precious little creatures and I count myself very lucky that part of my life is devoted to sketching and painting them. I do not work from photographs, but from my sketches or memory to help preserve some of their whimsical nature- I hope you enjoy this pair painted at the Edmonds Arts Festival near Seattle, WA. A little bird rests amongst the weeds on a blustery winter day, ready to leap into the wind and get wrapped into the outstretched arms of the world around him. The canvas was prepared with a colorful mix of yellows blues and greens and then overlaid with an india ink drawing and further softer brush strokes. I hope you enjoy my little "One with Nature"!

This sweet little bird has just arrived in the winter underbrush and is preparing to hop off again to his next destination. A gestural, whimsical look at the daily life of a backyard garden in winter, this painting started with a heavy undercoat of blues and greens before having a layer of india ink lines drawn and wiped across the top.
