This command is really easy to handle when our lives are running smoothly. But how difficult it is to put this teaching into action when we are in the furnace of affliction, faced with trials and circumstances that we cannot escape.

Jesus never worried about anything because His mind was completely focused on fulfilling God's purpose and destiny for his earthly life. We fret when we forget whose will ("Thy will be done") we are here to accomplish. How it must break God's heart when we are so determined to get our own way instead of committing our plans to Him.

There seems to be two mindsets that Christians today have towards wealth. The first says that you aren’t really spiritual if you have an abundance of material possessions. The opposite mindset believes that you can’t have lots of worldly goods and prosperity unless God has blessed you.

I don’t believe that either opinion in its extreme is very scriptural. From what I’ve seen of life it seems that God uses seasons of need and uncertainty to show us that we can fully trust Him to care and provide for us. Not many people will tell you that they enjoy going through times of affliction, but it helps to know that God has allowed it for a purpose.

If you are going through a season of need and worry remember that these times are very special to God. His greatest desire is that we seek and love Him with all of our heart, mind and soul. He promises to pour out His blessings on those who know and trust in Him!
