Compacta

This is a variant of the glandiflora compacta species of hydrangea. It has pinkish purple petals that grow in the typical bunches. Sure to brighten any room.

Element of Life

It has been said that water is the element of life an this picture only proves this. This old tree stump is teeming with new life as plants and moss grow in the cavity left from when the tree fell. Surrounded by flowing water, this little island is sprouting forth anew.

Burgundy in Bloom

When walking through nature you never know what you will see. This burgundy bloom was found along a nature trail growing in the wild.

Lone Tree

This tall and majestic tree stands on its own in the middle of a marshy area. Its short branches covered in Spanish moss that waves in the breeze. You just know that various birds have nested in the moss and use it as camouflage to hide from predators.

Compacta

These brightly colored balls of purple and white petals bloom each spring and summer. Hydrangea makes beautiful dried flowers. But why cut them and dry them when we can capture their full natural splendor and hang it on the wall.

Rebirth

As one cycle ends, another begins. This piece of driftwood is an excellent example of the cycle of nature, or as the movie puts it - the circle of life. This piece of wood has come to rest at the water's edge, but from the top of it comes new life and plants.

Pink Wildflowers

These bright pink little flowers grow wildly along the rivers here in the South. We're not sure what kind they are but they are pretty and pop out in spring and into summer.

Toadstool Village

Ok, so there really aren't enough mushrooms to make a village but they are still beautiful and interesting. This grouping was found on the side of a small trail and we wondered how many people had walked past them and ever noticed they were there. So many times we've seenw here someone has stomped or kicked over mushrooms and toadstools. It's something that we were able to see these fungi before someone or something came along and knocked them over.

Pia

There are a multitude of varieties of hydrangeas. This is the Pia. Its pinkish purple petals are brightly contrasted against the deep green foliage. It may not be a rose but it still smells as sweet.

Little Mushrooms

Taken on a whim on one of our walks, this has long been a fan favorite of our photography. The taller mushroom is only about three inches tall with its minuscule little 'shroom next to it. Although they are toadstools they remind me of a nice spaghetti dinner with mushrooms and garlic bread.

Serrata Preziota

These beautiful hydrangea blossoms have a variegated petals in blended purples and pinks. We got this shot just after a short morning shower so the flowers and leaves are covered in water droplets.

The Wildflower

There's something soothing and calm about wildflowers. This was found in a small field we came across. The first thought in our minds was of a young girl sitting amidst the flowers creating a daisy chain for her hair and plucking the petals one by one as she tried to determine if he loves or loves her not.

Red Sensation

This sensational hydrangea is the Red Sensation. As demonstrated by some of our gallery, hydrangeas come in a variety of colors. This solid red beauty is just another example of what can be found in nature. What is fascinating is also the vibrant, deep rich green leaves of this particular plant. They are so glossy as to look waxed.

Spring's Snowball

This beautiful cluster of small, white hydrangea petals has been nicknamed Annabelle. The snowy white petals grow in big ball like clusters. It looks like a plant grown snowball. And just when you thought winter was over...

Nature's Rainbow

These three different hydrangea blooms set each off with their vibrant colors. These were taken about a month into spring when the plants were just really starting to blossom. The range of color is what makes this photograph so unique as the picture makes it look like all three flowers came from the same plant.

Awesome Astor

Astor blooms grow on thick stems. Ours have grown to be bigger than one spread hand. This particular blossom grew out of a vase. The petals were yellow with pink tinged edges and very pretty. The background was toned out to a dark green so that the blossom stood out.

Side Stepping

It's almost as if this tree were trying to avoid the fence behind it. There was no reason for the bend in the tree that I could see but then I am sure it took some time for it grow like this.

Early Blossom

Just as the hydrangeas were coming into bloom we were able to get this beauty. This is a Miyama Yae Murasaki. The yellow and purple petals are just breath-taking.

Royal Purple

Deep, rich color set against a bright green helps this Royal Purple Hydrangea just jump out of the picture here. One of our favorite photographs from this past spring we felt we had to share this beautiful blossom.

Ivy Leaves

Ivy is a very adaptable plant. Its vines and variegated green leaves growing throughout the season. It will climb anywhere - over the ground, up trees, on fences.... Taken in the spring this particular vine had started sprouting leaves as it grew up the side of a tree. The different green leaves pop against the bark.

Cotton Patch

If the South is known for anything, cotton is going to come up in the conversation at some point or another. One of the most versatile materials for fabrics and clothing, cotton grows abundantly here in Georgia. This was taken on the side of an old country highway in mid-Georgia just south of Augusta.

Swamp Stream

Living along a major river lends itself to having some wetland areas surrounding it. This is now one of our regular walking natural trails. This picture was taken in early spring of 2012 when all the plants and trees were coming in with their vibrant greens.

Mossy Forsyth Park

Savannah is a beautiful city. One of the more popular parks within it is Forsyth Park with its Spanish moss covered trees. Here is one of the photographs that we captured while visiting this historical city.

Fog River

A portion of the Savannah River in Augusta this bend was taken early on a foggy morning. Fog was not too thick at this particular time of year but it still added a mystic touch to the photograph. Jc took this photograph in black and white for a more classic look.

Prairie Rose

This perennial was found along the Savannah River. From what we can find it is a type of prairie rose; however we could be wrong. Whatever its name, this blossom's rich red petals is tinged with white. The green background makes this lovely flower stand out.

Mexican Shell Flower

This beautiful Tigridia is also known as the Mexican shell flower or tiger flower. This one is from our personal gardens. They have showy blossoms and in this case the bright red petals with its spotted yellow interior is just magnificent.

Yellow Mushroom

Taken during one of our hikes, Dion was able to get this beautiful mushroom. (Where's Mario when you need him, right?) This little guy was only a couple of images but this close up makes it look larger than life.

To Float...or Not to Float

Autumn is full of wonderful color. Leaves are changing from bright greens into shades of red, orange and yellow. They drift softly from their wind blown branches down to the ground. Or, in some cases, they fall onto the surface of a stream or pond. Such was the case with this little leaf. How they land on the water can determine if the float along with the water current or if they sink below the surface. This leaf is half in and half floating in the sunshine reflected surface of a clear stream.

Making Waves

So this little leaf is making more ripples than waves but still rather pretty in its simplicity.

Well Rooted

These roots are from a tree along the Savannah River. It's amazing to think how nature can guide the trees roots to a water source and create something so interesting and unique as this root grouping.

Not Yet Realized

It was once said that a weed is a flower whose beauty has not yet been realized. I found this brightly colored flower at the Augusta Canal with its intense red blossom.

Minor Rush

Being a Pisces I have an affinity for water in all its forms. Waterfalls are especially interesting to me. Although this is a small, simple one I loved it.

Tree 'Shroom

We've all seen mushrooms growing on the ground or on occasion our yards. However, it's not very often you find a mushroom growing out of a tree like this. This is a fine example of the whole "Circle of Life" concept.

Nikko Blue

Hydrangea is one of our favorite flowers. There is a huge variety of these plants. The Nikko Blue is perhaps one of my all time favorites. This photograph is off center which I like things to be a little 'off'. All too often you see the flowers straight on so this was my way of making it a little different from others that you might see out and about.

Element of Life

Another black and white photograph retouched. Water is one of the four elements and considered the element that gives life.

Hydrangea Petal

Hydrangea flowers are some of our favorites. The bloom in clusters so you have to time it just right to photograph a single petal in bloom. Although this petal is facing downward I was able to capture the color in fine detail. It had just rained so the water gave it some luster and sparkle. The rich colors would look good in any room.
