Majestic mountains, rolling hills and mountain plateaus dotted with scenic towns provide satisfying vistas while bustling cities are home to world renowned business and efficiency.

Available here are some of the photos featured in my book "Switzerland In View - A Photographic Essay"

The jade green glacier water and incredible rock formations are stunning on a sunny day. In this gorgeous valley one can find the smallest municipality in Switzerland, Corippo as well as the Contra dam (or Verzasca dam). The dam forms Lago di Vogorno, an artificial reservoir. It is the 25th tallest dam in the world. The dam is famous for the opening scene of the 1995 James Bond film GoldenEye.

This photograph really highlights the green river and interesting rock formations that can be enjoyed during a trip up the valley. The gorge in parts is only a few meters wide, with rocks up to 300 m high. This narrow gorge was formed by the Hinterrhein River, a headstream of the Rhine.

One of the most wild and picturesque gorges in Switzerland, the Via Mala is walled by vertical limestone cliffs as the Splügen Road passes above the gorge. To experience the Via Mala fully, one should descend the 321 safe steps to the Rhine, admire the and dramatically carved cliffs"whirl-pots" as seen in this photograph.

Lago Maggiore from the Piazza Ascona

Modern Storefront Thun

A futuristic storefront wall in Thun Switzerland.

Alpenblick (View of the Alps)

Bikes in Thun

Two bikes in the gate of Thun Castle, Switzerland.

The Matterhorn from Gornergrat

Roses of Thun

Thun is an ancient city, from before Christ. The name is from the Celtic term Dunum, meaning "fortified city". It fell to Rome in 58 BC, and was one of the main centres of Roman administration. Thun became a part of the Holy Roman Empire in 1033. In 1195 Duke Bertold von Zähringen, built a castle in Thun and expanded the city. Today it houses a museum of Swiss history.

Its first buildings were erected in the 11th century by the Zähringer, a dynasty of noblemen. After they had died out, the German emperor gave the castle to the Freiherren of Klingen in 1218, from whom it derives its name.

From 1449 on, it gained in importance as Switzerland's northernmost watchtower against Germany. In 1863, the structure became a small spa and restaurant, but soon had to be renovated because part of the structure began to slide downhill. Today, Hohenklingen contains a well-known upper-price restaurant.

The houses are built from the local Ticino granite with slate roofs and have changed little for several hundred years, leading the Italian writer Piero Bianconi to describe Corippo as "Verzasca's gentlest village". Its early 17th century Church was extended in the late eighteenth century. Corippo's architectural value has caused the entire village centre to be placed under a conservation order, and in 1975 the European Architectural Heritage Congress named the village as an "exemplary model" for historical preservation.
