Summer At The Pond

This is a small slice of the Minnow Lake shoreline in Greater Sudbury. This lake too was and still is dealing with pollution issues from the industries of the early 1900's. The city has installed a huge water fountain in the middle of the lake to aerate it to promote a healthy aquatic environment.

Hummingbird Clearwing Moth

When I first saw this creature I thought it was a baby hummingbird because it was hovering over these flowers. When I trained my camera on it and got a close up view I realized it was a moth.

Big Gulp

This is the first time I have seen a Cedar Waxwing at my cherry trees. I had been out trying to get a shot of this bird for over an hour when I decided to try again later.So, I went home, poured myself a coffee and sat down at my kitchen table. looked out the window and there he was. He stayed long enough to let me get a shot. Apparently the mating ritual for this bird is to pass a piece of fruit back and forth between the male and the female until one accepts it and the deal is done. I guess this one had a mate because he downed the cherry very quickly. No sharing this time.

The Lava Monster

This started out as a photo of ice on a storm window. I get a lot of that. :)

Convergence

For anyone who has ever removed old linoleum from a floor, then you know what this started out as. Because of the time and effort involved I just couldn't let a pile of such wonderful texture and shape go to waste - so I took some photos of it. Then I played with the image.

The Wall

With this image I tried to contrast the soft strength found in nature's beauties with the hard reality of human construction.

Blue Music

This started out as a close up of the white wing of a bird that had met an untimely end. I didn't find the rest of the bird so I can only assume the wing was brought into my yard by the wind.

Against The Grain

There are so many cliches out there about being different: swimming against the tide, uphill battle and going against the grain. This creation came out of a section of the door to my woodshed. The door doesn't fit properly, it doesn't close flush to the jam and it doesn't quite span the vertical proportions of the entrance. But it does the job.

Leaves In Motion

These are leaves jammed into a hanging basket outside my door. They are so densely packed that when the wind comes their motion is limited by each other.

I Could Be Dangerous

I was out for a walk and came upon a young man painting the church fence. He had his dog with him. I asked him if the dog was friendly and he said the dog could be dangerous. So, I kept my distance and took some shots of him.

Great Blue Heron

This magnificent creature is actually a city dweller. Granted here in Sudbury we have many, many lakes, but it was still a pleasant surprise to catch sight of him virtually in the middle of the city.

A Plethora of Petunias

There is no flower prettier, happier and sweeter than the petunia. It also helps that this is one of the few flowers that will grow for me.

Early Evening Swim

I set out one early evening to catch some shots of the ducks and geese on Lily Creek, here in the middle of the city and these two were more than happy to provide a good shot.

In order to get the scale of this rock, look at the two people at the zenith of the rock. This site has been created and coddled into one of the best places to hike in Sudbury.

These little guys are normally very nimble. The only explanation we could find for this odd positioning was that he had jumped from the roof to the cherry tree and slightly miscalculated.
