From these few frames I discovered, in the editing, an incredibly beautiful image that is full of lines and curves and depth and translucence that I have decided to make a study on hostas. This spring is nothing but green and lines and swirls and depth and transparency. And beauty. Mostly beauty.

Study in Green

I love the color green. One never knows under what conditions their soul will be, or has been, born into this world. Maybe it is one of those souls who has been born before but has gone into hibernation, whether they be guarding themselves from the past or the future. Or both. Spring is not always the right time for a soul to come out of the darkness. Perhaps it will be darker out here than it was in hibernation. But be the soul prepared or no, it will venture forth from the darkness and learn new ways of living. New is not always what is desired.

Raindrops on Grass

I've heard the song about "raindrops on roses," and know it well. but why has no one made a song about raindrops on grass? (Or maybe they have and I don't know it.) I think grass is just as beautiful. Maybe more so. After all, fewer people, I think, notice the raindrops on fresh grass down there at-- or under-- their feet. Roses are showy and much closer to your face and therefore out of the mud. But raindrops on grass-- it's like I have a secret as to how stunning the combination of the two are. So what if I get wet and muddy? My face so near the ground, the smell of fresh spring leaves and rain and the earth. It's one secret I find hard to keep.

Yours truly, Green

Dear Brenda, So, I have been gone a long time and I hear that you are really starting to miss me terribly. I have even heard that you have gone so far as to pollute your home with those things that you buy in stores that are called "Potted Plants." Really now. I never thought you'd stoop so low. I understand that this has been an exceptionally long and bitter winter, but you are not the only one, by any means, who is missing me. But it will soon be March and things will start to pop. Take a look even now and you will see that the buds are swelling on the trees and shrubs. Any time now Skunk Cabbage will be blooming. (I understand you're on a hunt for one to photograph. Keep your nose open.) And just think: the maples are already running sap out for syrup. And folks have tapped the trees and are already yielding a crop. Think how it will taste on pancakes next winter. So try not to suffer so much. Remember these things and take heart. Life is stirring under the snow. Yours truly, Green

Early Spring

Every season has its own colors. Early spring on grape vines is a remarkable and electric shade of green. Oh. And the tendrils are a dark magenta! I discovered this photo in my file of things to "Hold", not knowing if I liked it well enough to put it up. I decided I did like it well enough, once I found that long forsaken folder of work to be discovered. And the tendrils? There's one in that file, too.

Spring 2010 Hostas Day 2 042

I'm doing a series on Hostas this year.
