Buster's Day in the Sun

This the young financial executive of the previous decade or so who earned megabucks drove a porsche and owned a penthouse suite somewhere in the city. The original work is an oil on canvas measuring 73cms x 60cms. I painted this in the year 2000

CooLGirl

I recently made my debut on the Cote d'Azur with a solo exhibition at the Art & Fire Gallery in Nice on the rue de France just behind the Hotel Negresco on the Promenade des Anglais; the gallery used this image on the Poster that publicised the event (November 2007). The image measures 46cms x 38 and I painted it in the year 2005. This is an oils on canvas and as you can see colourfully vivid one interesting point is that her eyes appear to follow you even from behind her dark glasses

The Refugees

What is left of a Family recently made homeless by the ravages of war. This is an oil on canvas measuring 80cms x 100cms. I painted this stark and somewhat disturbing image in the year 2004. You cannot imagine how harrowing it is to feel their eyes follow so piercingly as they do but I feel also that you cannot fail to be very moved by them.

Apres Trente Ans de Mariage - After 30 Years of Ma

This is essentially a love story.When two almost literally become one. One point of view; one idea. Each looking out for the other. The original is an oil on canvas that I painted in the year 2001. It measures 81cms x 65cms. It is always very popular at every exhibition and has been reproduced several times by the media here in the Languedoc region of SW France

Punks

Punks are colourful and they have a menacing air about them. Most notably, they stare at you, in fact they often try to stare you out.Most often they are not menacing. Deux Soeurs -Two Sisters

I set myself the not easy task of painting a portrait in just one colour: Blue, and this is the result:Two Sisters meeting by moonlight. I posted this image recently to the Charles Saatchi online gallery and one other member commented simply: "This beautiful in its exquisitness . . . . . Couple on Beach at Cannes

For some unknown reason I titled this painting in French as " Le Magnat du Cinema avec sa deuxieme Femme" - "The Movie Tycoon with his second Wife" In point of fact this is an oil painted on wood measuring 81cms x 100cms which I painted in 2002. The colours are beautiful and exquisitly vibrant. I have family in America who swear that this is more Californian than European

Champagne Heads

I was inspired to paint this canvas by the term "Champagne Socialists" those rich middle class people that love to sip champagne whilst pontificating on what should be done about the plight of the poor and needy; The French have a similar term in "Gauche Caviar" This oil is rich in colour and measures 81cms x 100cms (notice how the eyes follow you) I painted it in the year 2001 it too has been reproduced in the media both in English and French publications

Couple in the Dark

This is obviously a play on words; they are indeed in the dark but there seems to be something that one of them is not telling the other, either way they are "in the dark" together. This is an oil on canvas measuring 65cms x 81cms which I painted in 2001 - the lined boxes and colours generally are a mild tongue in cheek homage to the Dutch contemporary master Piet MONDRIAN who never would never have painted with such expressionism; nevertheless a true modern genious.

En Face d'Abime - Facing the Abyss

Many people have attested to the comforting nature of this work. It is essentially a positive image. How many young men have not faced the abyss: a lover - their career - the future and then gone on and risen above the abyss? Oil on canvas 61cms x 50cms - 2004

The Diascuri or The Gemini Twins

In Greek mythology the diascuri were handsome,charismatic and above all succesful warrior twins. They fought, they conquered, they lived together; always together; inseparable. They were twins because, as thought, during the night of their conception their mother was visited by the almighty Zeus. So, as would be expected, one of the twins was destined to be immortal whilst his "earthly" brother would die like the rest of us.Tragically, the mortal brother was killed in battle. So despondant was his twin that he appealed to his heavenly father to spare him. After much deliberation Zeus in Solomon like fashion decreed that they should share their fate equally and he set them both in the heavens as Gemini. Oil on Canvas 80cm x 100cms - 2007

A Family of Wild Flowers in the Cemetry

They certainly look like a family. It is true that they look sad, desolate almost frightened. This image evokes our loved ones who have passed away. It, like them, has a timeless quality; Gazing at it is like gazing at flowers in the wind, perpetually soothing and somehow reassuring. Oil on Wood this original work measures 90cms x 100cms and I painted it in the year 2003

Mère et Fils Affligé - Mother and Handicapped Son

This is not just love this is devotion in practice. His ear is slightly bruised from the violence of sheer frustration. Who is the handicapped here? This haunting image not only makes you think, it makes you also feel blessed; you can stare at this for hours believe me; Oil on canvas 73cms x 92cms - I painted this image in the year 2000

PostCard

This postcard sized collage represents no less than 19 of my works.All the works represented are oils on canvas. Although computer generated from digital photographs this is nevertheless an excellent introduction to my work.

The Embryo - L'Embryon

This semi-abstract portrait is inspired by the somewhat complex humanist idea that states basically that we are only a sum of our social experiences. This portrait offers an image of man devoid of social interaction. Oil on canvas 100cms x 80cms 2006

The Cold Wind of the Mid-Life Crisis

This title doesn't translate well into French : "Le Vent Froid de la Crise de la Cinquantaine" but when I entered this work into an exhibition in Castres France 2 televised the event and played out their credits across this image - it was a very long minute.Have a long look yourself. The Gifted Child - l'Enfant Doué

Les Amis des Artistes in Maraussan were kind enough to invite me to be their "invité d'honeur" for their Salon de Printemps. They used this image on the poster that publicised the event and of course it was widely reproduced by the media in the region. The image depicts the gifted child supported by his parents but with the inevitable tinge of jealousy hinted at in the father. Oil on canvas 73cms x 92cms. I painted this work in 2002

Le Jeune Soldat - The Young Soldier

This quite straightforwardly the universal young soldier caught up in the heat of a war he's forgotten why he's fighting - he's probably only about 19 years old. Oil on wood 90cms x 110cms - 2003

Cupid & Psyche

In Greek mythology we find this sad and romantic tale of how Aphrodite was so eaten up with jealousy regarding her rival Psyche that she ordered he son Cupid to assassinate her. He did try but somewhere on that road to trying he fell in love with her and they became legendary lovers. This, some say perverse twist, is an oil on canvas measuring 100cms x 80cms which I painted in 2004. It's French title is "Jusqu'à ce que la Mort Nous Sépare" - 'tll Death do us Part.
