One of the things that drew me to 3D CGI (Computer Generated Imagery) was that it allowed me to create my own worlds. Some of the "worlds" I enjoy creating most are retro futuristic cityscapes like those imagined in the 1930's, Superman's Metropolis or Batman's Gotham city with a streamlined moderne art deco feeling. I also draw inspiration from the industrial designers and architects of the 1930's like Norman Bel Geddes and the great architectural renderer, Hugh Ferriss, as well as the pulp science fiction magazine covers of the area.

Birth of a New Technology

An early portfolio piece created when 3D illustration was still something of a novelty in 1995. Inspired by the anticipation of the birth of my daughter. If I only knew then how prescient I was about how thoroughly intertwined my daughter's generation would become with new technology. The buildings are inspired by the great architectural renderings of Hugh Ferriss and the airplane was modeled after industrial designer Norman Bel Geddes 1929 plans for "Airliner Number 4," a 9-deck amphibian airliner that incorporated areas for deck-games, an orchestra, a gymnasium, a solarium, and two airplane hangars.

Island of Yorum

Island city inspired by Jules Vernes' work.
