Description 2010 RC deWinter ~ All Rights Reserved ~~ Since before 1850, the American branch of the Seamen's Friend Society has been providing comfort and sometimes lodging for weary men of the sea. Mystic Seaport Museum houses the records of this group from 1828 through 1975. The Society officially disappeared into the mists of seafaring history in 1985, although there are many organizations around the world still providing aid and comfort to seamen and their families to this day.
