Barry Gallegos, Henderson Member Since July 2009 Artist Statement I've been playing around with photography since my teens, starting with an old Kodak 110 camera that I shot pictures of everything that I deemed photographable. My mom didn't quite get the pictures of the vegetable bin in the 'fridge, but she went ahead and paid for the film development anyway.
Anyway, I went through a few other "cheapie" cameras (including the fabulous Kodak Disc!) until I finally got my first SLR, a Canon Rebel. After spending gobs of money on shooting everything in sight and finding out upon developing the film that the lighting sucked or my focus was akin to having glaucoma, I decided it was time to go digital and after a few smaller pocket-size cameras (including a Canon PowerShot S300), I finally got my first Digital SLR, a Canon EOS Rebel, and now I'm shooting with a Canon 40D until I can figure out a way to buy a more expensive camera!
Living in the Henderson-Las Vegas area affords me many opportunities to shoot photos of desert landscapes along with the many hotels and casinos in the area.
I also travel whenever possible and have my camera with me at all times so I can shoot when the opportunity strikes. I have taken pictures on both coasts, down to Mexico and throughout Holland, France, and England.
My primary focus is shooting outdoor scenes, either with or without a model. I try to stay away from using artificial lights and retouching my work, generally the most I ever enhance a photo is by adding or reducing the brightness or contrast so I can keep the original subject as close to how I saw it through the camera as I took the picture.
