Tiffany Niewohner, Elgin Member Since November 2007 Artist Statement A native "Nebraskan" in love with the arts!! Painting, drawing, photography......I love it all. I have been involved in art for as long as I can remember but became interested in photography after losing my grandma to lung cancer in 2005. It started as simply an outlet for all the "stuff" I was feeling and allowed me to put the energy into something productive. Now I don't know what I'd do without my camera and it goes with me EVERYWHERE.......As part of a cause I strongly support (cancer support and awareness), I've added a program to my studio called Terminal Treasures. I take photos of those fighting a terminal illness so they have something tangible to leave behind. The final photos of my grandma are the ones I treasure the most, so I want others to have that comfort as well. I do the entire session and offer all photos at no cost to them whatsoever. I have a friend in Canada who has joined the group as well. I hope to have other photographers join my cause so that eventually it will be available to anyone who wants it.
I love capturing everything, though nature/landscaping, children/babies, and all things "candid" are my favorites. I'm not into posed pictures as much....they're not natural. I tend to catch the things in everyday life that most often go unnoticed......there is so much beauty in the little things that most people overlook. I guess losing my grandma taught me to stop and enjoy the little things....to take time to enjoy those things we so often take for granted....even if that means stopping on the side of the road to catch something that no one else would "get."
I'm the mom to three adorable boys and have a degree in the medical field but have opted to stay at home while my boys are still glad to have me there!! I recently opened a studio (Call Me Candid) and do portraits, but my main love is print work and selling and displaying my "art" while still having the freedom to be a full time mom when the kids are home from school. Thanks for taking the time to browse my work~
