Description A painting from the “Sixteen Series,” which deals with obsessive compulsive disorder (or OCD) and balance. A pattern is established between the left and the right: LRRL RLLR RLLR LRRL. Consisting of sixteen discreet actions or gestures, this order represents balance. I produced a series of four (four being a fourth of sixteen, and divisible into four whole parts.) In this particular piece, sixteen is represented as the stone tiles.
Michael Slatky, NYC Member Since August 2007 Artist Statement Michael Slatky (b. 1972) is an American artist who works in watercolor, pencil, ink, and digital media. He is a graduate of the School of Visual Arts in New York City with a B.F.A. in Illustration. He currently lives in Manhattan.
Slatky’s pieces are immediately striking; visceral, hallucinatory, and simultaneously fascinated with and repulsed by the human form. His focus is nothing short of the limitations of bodily reality and the possibility of transcendence.
In 2011, Slatky self-published his first book, "Dogs' Minds in Asphalt: Book One" in a limited edition. 2012 will see the release "Dogs' Minds in Asphalt: Book Two", as well as "Approach Me", part of an ongoing collaboration with the artists’ collective 1RODHWY.
