Artist Statement Mike Jeffcoat works in digital photography. He started taking photos in high school when he took a photography class to fill an elective. Then, of course, it was all film and darkrooms. Nowadays he uses Nikon DSLR’s, antique TLR cameras, and various computer software to create the images you see.

Mike joined the United States Marine Corps shortly after high school. While he was deployed twice to the Persian Gulf and Iraq, he took the opportunity to document the events on film. During this time he learned new methods and began to hone a style for himself. He also learned sand is not good for cameras.

Once back home, Mike decided to make his love of photography more than a hobby. Though a full-time Police Officer, as well as a husband and father, Mike takes advantage of any chance to go out and search for new inspiration. Currently Mike is working with a style called Through the Viewfinder. Using a Nikon (or other) DSLR camera, he shoots through the viewfinder of any number of antique twin-reflex cameras to create an aged and very unique photograph.
