Holly Manneck Member Since August 2009 Artist Statement Holly Manneck
at Wet Paint Studio
Holly lives in Naples, Florida and spends time in Montana and New Hampshire during the summers. She has lived on several Islands in the Caribbean, lived and traveled around the world on Ships, and lived in several Countries throughout Europe and from Vermont to Florida in the States. These explorations have shaped her artistic sensibilities. From the Caribbean the colors and textures were a great influence on her work. The clear air, clean waters and typical textures still reflect with great intensity in her color palette and on the painting surfaces. Color is of primary importance to her without it she says there is no painting. “My color brings life and energy to my work, whatever the subject matter representational or abstract color leads the way”. Composition and design are important; it is what holds the interest of the viewer. These elements needs to be strong enough and enticing enough to captivate and move the viewer around her world (the painting). She most often works in a series to explore an idea until she is resolved with it. This always leads the way to new exploration. From her world Travels and exploring the historical perspective and man’s journey from Mythology, Cave Paintings to the icons of the 21st century these themes frequently appear in her work. Icons historical, present day or from her own imagination all part of her visual vocabulary. Her view is that these elements show our universal connection to the past, present and into our responsibilities of the future.
Mixed media is her media of choice it allows her the freedom to create. She often works on panel, tarps, canvas, and plaster. Materials used are oils, acrylic, pastel, paper, photography, transfers, found and recycled objects.
. Holly states “I want people to enjoy my work, perhaps to question it and then to connect with it, to find a universal appeal Hopefully once looked at find it imprinted on the mind to visit in their imagination from time to time, better yet acquire a piece and visit it daily”!
