Artist Statement Tina grew up with a pad of paper and pencil in her hands. Being a shy child, drawing was her favourite childhood past time. She was given her first camera at age 9 and the world opened up for her. She loves taking photographs from a perspective not often seen or noticed. But it is the art of painting that has really given life to the artist inside her.

Self described as an ‘emotional painter’ she works primarily with acrylics but also enjoys delving into watercolour and pencil work at times. Her signature style of painting is abstract expressionism. Works of bold colour and layer upon layer of texture are two main ingredients that make appearances in most of her art.

“Painting gives me a way to expel all the colours, thoughts and emotions constantly colliding in my mind. I primarily consider colour and my state of mind when I start a new painting. What colour I’m feeling at that moment is directly related to how I feel and that is what drives my painting.

Everyone feels something different when they see my work. The emotions we feel are as unique as each person is. But we all feel grief at one time or another, elation, loneliness…. We all have our secrets inside. I add paint to mine and put them on canvas. One of the most fulfilling parts of painting for me is hearing from others, their personal interpretations of each piece I complete. In doing that, we each share our stories.

I hope my paintings cause people to stop and stare for a while, feeling a small part of themselves in what I have I have expressed. ”
