Description Have you ever had the feeling you were running from something? Pascal believed we all run from figuring out who we are and why we're here. See what you think! ... Once upon a time there were people in a room. They were not happy. They wanted to bowl, to knit, to watch T.V. to play video games or play golf. But they were stuck in the room. Being stuck in the room with nothing to do made them think about why they were in the room at all, and what they were supposed to do in the room, and that made them more uncomfortable and unhappy. What did the people do? They screamed, We want out!! They kicked and wept and scratched at the walls with their fingers until they found the way out. Whew! Then they went bowling, and began to knit and they turned on the T.V. and played video games and played golf. And they were happy.Pascal, the 16th century philosopher said, the sole cause of mans unhappiness is that he does not know how to stay quietly in his room.
Anne Selleck, Manistee Michigan Member Since November 2008 Artist Statement I am a watercolor painter. My paintings are usually inspired by something I've read. I love philosophy, stories, fables, the Bible, theology etc. and have a hard time getting out of a book store empty handed.
Most of my paintings have stories that go with them and you'll find the stories in the description area next to each painting. As I've observed people look at my paintings, I've noticed that reading the stories adds to their enjoyment of the art. Sometimes it is fun to have an inside look at the beginnings (or endings) of a piece of art.
Feel free to create your own stories. I hope you enjoy this small journey of spirit!
