Description Thunder is set a steamy alleyway in the French Quarter of New Orleans. The painting was inspired by the song 'Thunder' written by my friend Daryl. 'I hear thunder in the mountains, I hear thunder in the streets. I hear thunder on the corner, where the Crips and the Bloods meet...'
Joelle Rene, Virginia Member Since January 2009 Artist Statement After more than 20 years working as a fine artist in pastel and watercolor, I have ventured into the world of digital art and lost myself in the realm of faeries. I render these delicate fae and children of the sea to help me understand this world of dreams we live in and this enchantment we call life. If this world is really mere illusion, then I choose to have magic in mine.
My artwork begins with photo shoots of live models - I have several beautiful and very talented young ladies that pose for me. Often I will tell them what emotion I am trying to capture. Other times I will just let them play and see what unfolds. These models have been such a gift to me, for it is the look in their eyes or the way they hold their mouth that tells the story. From this spark of life the paintings unfold. Although these beauties are depicted with glitter and wings, it is a very human tale I am trying to tell.
There are so many excellent fairy artists out there. My thanks to you for all your inspiration and for the magical visions you have created. You have enriched my world with your creations. Let us together render these faerie realms. May we paint until our last breath is drawn and then leave behind this stuff of dreams.
