Carlo Olkeriil, Portland, Oregon Member Since January 2013 Artist Statement Carlo Olkeriil's tradition as an emerging fine artist would be surpassed by a strong Indigenous background of his Native Pacific Islander cultures he held and impact on the Oregon coast appreciation and understanding of art. After graduated at Portland State University with Bachelor Science in Arts and Letters, Carlo would organize and oversee the maturity of his creative skills had coupled with both fine art and literature.
In addition, he was awestruck by an environmental inspirations when he moved to Astoria, Oregon in which he was compelled to create woodcarvings of the local themes. In his work, he often uses contemporary ideas of folklore,myths, legends, and architecture to combine with his strong traditional woodcarving technique. As a surfer, he engages his collection of visual experiences for his work from the land and the sea.
Recently, Carlo is utilizing his woodcarving skills by continuing to explore new ideas of the Pacific Northwest to share his Native Pacific Islander a unique and abstract style of woodcarving from Palau in Southwest Pacific Oceanic Region.
