Description ACCOMMODATING TREESBY DIANE PFISTERThis collection of photographs is the product of a decade-long passion for observing the ways of trees and other living plants when confronted with urbanization and that universally recognizable element of human nature that the French aptly call Maitriser -- meaning a desire to control, to overcome, to systematize, to master. Yet, there are interesting balances of strength and vulnerability to be seen when the forces of nature are confronted by human effort, whether that effort is meant to nurture, control or obliterate. Each image in this collection marks one moment in time; one choreographed interlude between the varied dichotomies of nature and civilization at dance here. I present symbols of the living and the dead, the vulnerable and the strong, the guard and the guarded, and the strangely symbiotic nature of their sometimes opposed wills. The dance continues.
