Jessica Riehl, Chesapeake, Virginia Member Since June 2008 Artist Statement Jessica is an emerging photographer whose modern lifestyle photography demonstrates her special knack for capturing intimate and organic portraits of families and children.
Jessica’s passion for photography began when she was a curious child with a camera, exploring the countryside near her hometown of Monterey, Virginia, population 53. After graduating from college and many cameras later, Jessica was a Navy officer, photographing the world from the bridge of her forward-deployed amphibious ship.
Photography took on a new importance in Jessica’s life after her grandmother passed away, leaving behind boxes and boxes of cherished memories. These were photographs that, together, comprised a complete photographic legacy of the family dating to the 1890s. Fueled by the desire to give this gift of love and family heritage to others, Jessica became a full-time photographer.
In addition to photographing families and children, Jessica is a talented fine art, travel, and commercial photographer. She enjoys savoring the simple things in life and is a self-proclaimed kid at heart who just likes to have fun. Jessica’s home base is Chesapeake, Virginia and she is a member of Greener Photography, non-profit dedicated to helping “green” the photographic industry. She also photographs for Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep, a nonprofit that provides free bereavement photography to newborns who may not come home from the hospital.
