Raoul Sanda Matundu, Freehold, NJ Member Since March 2008 Artist Statement Raoul Sanda Matundu was born during the Empirical days of Emperor Haile Selassie in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Son of an Ethiopian Mother and a Congolese Father, he had the privilege to travel the world with his family. Living in several countries and being totally immersed in the various cultures had enabled Raoul to deeply appreciate the uniqueness of people and places.
Raoul attended Lycee Francais de Vienne, Austria, before enrolling at the Center for the Media Arts in New York City. While in New York City, he studied Graphic Design, TV Arts and Photography.
His photographic style encompasses organic mood, humoristic and abstract views.
Raoul is fluent in French, Amharic, Swahili and has good knowledge of Spanish and German. In his spare time, he enjoys riding in the 5 Borough Bicycle Tour, soccer and traveling. He volunteers his graphic and photographic expertise to an organization called The Research Committee of Jamaica that supports Trenchtown Comprehensive School in Kingston, Jamaica.
Raoul has recently been given an honorable mention in Popular Photography Magazine for a picture he entered in a contest (http://www.popphoto.com/Features/2008-Reader-s-Photo-Contest/Action-Sports/photocontest-004). He is also looking forward to exploring Art Show venues to showcase his amazing talent.
