Daniel Quinonez, Long Beach California Member Since December 2009 Artist Statement I am a Mixed Media Abstract Artist looking to fulfill my life by expressing love for pieces of art that will profoundly change a person’s life. I live for those moments when people look at my work and connect with their innermost emotions. I am very passionate about every piece. Knowing that each person may experience art differently, an appreciation for my passion, time, and effort is undeniable. It is a creative process that puts me on both an emotional rollercoaster as well as a unique journey each time, a high like no other. That is why I love what I do.
I am a self taught artist with no formal training. I have learned my craft purely through experimentation. My work is rough and raw. I do not work on any traditional surfaces. My canvas is rusted sheet metal. I see beauty where others see trash and waste. The rust is produced naturally and I am inspired by the formation of the rust on the metal. The flow of texture and patterns can change the direction of my piece. I incorporate acrylics and enamel based paints to heighten the experience. The combination of natural metal corrosion and grinding of the metal helps create textures which enhance every piece with additional depth.
My subject matter usually consists of portrait themes. I love looking at people through their souls. What a person portrays on the outside is not always who they are on the inside. I occasionally select a subject and portray them from the inside looking out. I use colors in my pieces that are pleasing to the naked eye. I also work with negative space because it naturally encourages the viewer to take their time feeling and experiencing the piece. When we are forced to use our imagination, the impact is profound.
Currently I am evolving as a full time artist after my career in the steel industry was put on hold due to the current state of our economy. I am taking the opportunity during this time in my life to reveal to others who I am as an artist as well as connect with the industry. I enjoy networking with talented artists who share the love and passion for creating. Continually learning from other artists and viewers helps me personally grow. I look forward to emerging some day as a recognized artist reaching larger audiences inspiring them with my love and passion for art.
