Karyn Servin, Portland Member Since April 2009 Artist Statement At an early age, I knew I wanted to be an artist. By the fourth grade, I had changed the spelling of my name to reflect this goal. ‘Karen’ was generic; Karyn was artistic! As the teen years hit me, I endured the double whammies of bad hair and worse teeth. I found my escape in art.
My formal education came from the Pacific Northwest College of Art, majoring in Illustration. After college, I spent years traveling the world and creating art. I soaked up the vivid colors of Latin America, the cool blue of the Aegean Sea, and the bold brush strokes of Holland’s Van Gogh.
Professionally, I have created work nationally, as well as regionally. I spent fourteen years as an Art Director and Graphic Designer before daring to embrace my goals as an Illustrator.
Currently I stay busy creating custom illustration, as well as developing surface designs, and collections for licensing.
