Melanie Plouffe, Province of Quebec Member Since October 2008 Artist Statement Sensitivity… Color… Precision… Imagination… Delicacy… Discipline… All these words define me well as an artist. I play with color in a natural way as harmony in the nature. The requirements of the oil pastel ask of me a continuous discipline and concentration. The medium restricts the speed of my work but allows me a considered precision and gesture of execution. I handle chalks of pastel with a delicacy and a sensitivity which are transmitted into my colors and my forms.
After studying at the College of Outaouais in visual arts and at the University of Quebec in Montreal in teaching of arts, I chose to work in a parallel field as a heritage researcher. In my many trips during my work, I cultivate and stimulate my creativity.
Two of my former works in contemporary art belong to a collection, one at the regional center of services to the libraries of Estrie and the other at the College of Outaouais. I participated in several collective exhibitions and was retained as an artist to take part in the McAby exhibition, in Montreal during two consecutive years. I am also fascinated by short-lived art; I carried out several works of “Body Painting” made with as much precision as my oil pastel art.
I now make art in an occasional way but with a very great passion; mainly drawing and painting. I love illustrating insects and funny animals. To present my work on the Web and to take part in a blog allows me to enjoy my art and to share the content with other artists and the public.
