Junkyard Sam, North Hollywood Member Since December 2007 Artist Statement Welcome! Thanks for checking out my art: it's all about good times & getting these horrible things out of my head.
I love animals! I like to draw them and eat them sometimes. My parents used to take me to the junkyard with my dog Sam, a big black lab. He snooped for snacks while I quested for new toys in the rubble. Those were good days: Big Texas sun, dogs panting, hard work and fresh water. Nothing beats it.
Back in Texas we'd get chased by huge red ants that made giant hills out of big rocks. We had chickens. (Didn't eat 'em but the eggs were good.) We had dogs to scare off the coyotes & snakes and cats to keep the mice in the field. We even had goats to eat the grass and gerbils for the kids to pet. Those animals were my friends, and they taught me how to draw.
Then we moved to the city. Suddenly crazy homeless people and drug-addled suit'n'tie guys started finding their way into my art. (This makes it awfully hard to sell, but I don't have much control over what I draw.)
These days I'm like an old wolf working hard, putting pen to paper hoping to bring a smile to anyone willing to look at my art.
I got a great family, and they're the inspiration behind the good things in my work: my beautiful wife Jess, my awesome little boys Mylo & Jax (a.k.a Meat Loaf & the Poo Man), and a weasely Beagle my kids call "Poopaw."
Life is good. Thanks for being my friend. Junkyard Sam
