Description An ensemble of three very intricately decorated, black and white violins are featured in this piece theyre each made of six demon faces, and theyre all playing tritones in unison. In music theory, the tritone is exactly half an octave. In early music history, the tritone was known as the diabolus in musica, or the devil in music, and its use was rumored to have been punishable by death. The tritone is extremely harsh and dissonant and most monster movie soundtracks and Heavy Metal albums have these musical intervals in abundance. Douglas A. Griffin
Douglas Griffin, Nashville Member Since August 2007 Artist Statement I've always had one foot in the world of visual art and the other in music. I studied music composition in college and was very influenced by aleatoric, or "chance" compositions. I then started creating much of my music and visual art through aleatoric means, adding compositing techniques learned from Photoshop effects guru, Kai Krause. Somehow, all these disparate but harmonious influences come together in my art works. I hope you enjoy them.
