Description This acrylic landscape painting is from a modified photo that I took of the hotel gardens where I stayed on vacation. It includes sections of a small lake (or pond) with rocks, indigenous plants and trees. There is a small duck in the far side of the pond.
Velvet Tetrault, Waddell Member Since October 2013 Artist Statement I am an artist concentrating in realist paintings. I have a website at www.VisualGemsStudio.com (aka www.ArtByVelvetTetrault.com). My favorite style of painting is realism. I paint because I have a strong desire to express in paint the images that arise in my mind or that I see in a photograph. Sometimes a section of a photo or something I see gives me an idea that I want to combine and bring together with another image as a visual statement. Most recently, I have begun painting allegorical images. I paint a range of fine art subjects, including wildlife, landscape, still life, and figurative art. My paint mediums have ranged from acrylic, mixed media, and oil, to watercolor. I don’t have a favorite subject, but the subjects I favor are those where my feelings are the strongest about the images: their form, function, or what emotion they portray. That is, I don’t paint a house merely for the aesthetics of the house, but because it is a certain type of house: a spooky house or a comforting home. When I paint animals and birds, it is done for both the beauty of the animal and the sense of love and warmth I feel when I think of them. I express conflicting ideas and emotions through my allegorical painting.
When people look at my work, I would like them to experience the same feelings that I felt when I first imagined it, or to stop and think about the meaning behind the images. But most of all, I feel elated when someone looks at one of my paintings and finds something about it that really attracts them or moves them.
