Mary Rucker, Las Vegas Member Since March 2009 Artist Statement I love to paint in oils and I paint in a neoclassical style. My love for romantic images reflect the connection I have to make the canvas my other world. I am self taught. I have taken lessons and went to many college art courses.I was too impatient with the instructions and just needed to speedily put my dreams on canvas. I observed nature, light, people, other artiest, and spend an inordinate amount of time learning, learning, learning, perfecting, laboring over my passion. My eyes have been kind to me and I have had many years of enjoyment falling into the zone. I only hope someone else can share my world through my eyes.Oh please do come and stay a while! OK. the rest is my bio... here goes Mary Rucker was born in St. Louis, mo. and had an early passion for art. At 17 when her family lived in Las Vegas, Nevada. She started painting murals for restaurants and selling her painting s to family and friends. She worked in an art gallery in downtown Las Vegas selling art and her own work. She eventually moved to Los Angeles, Calif. where she went to school at L.A.C.C. studying art. She worked for Van Guard Studios as a production artist. While raising two boys and moving to the Chicago area, she painted in people’s homes and restaurants. One day she approached a local cable station about an idea she had about a TV show where she went into peoples homes, did murals for them and taught her viewers how they could also paint murals in their homes. This led to a half hr. weekly show called “ Mural Mural on The Wall”. After her mother who had a stroke while still residing in Las Vegas, Mary came back home to care for her and is now painting and giving lessons in the Las Vegas area.
