Description When I was a kid I was completely convinced that I was a martian trapped on Earth. I've always put faith in signs and talismans and this painting is a reflection of that, and also marked a turning point or a crossroads after I suffered a head injury and afterwards started hearing voices and being able to read peoples minds. I saw the sign or something like it in an old film noir movie, it was some weird code I was obsessed to decipher. In the end I just liked the mystery of it.
Bill O'Neil, Milwaukee Member Since October 2006 Artist Statement My artwork inspirations include a few odd conspirators like the chaotic influences of cryptography, prime numbers, and decay. I'm also influenced by Eames-era artifacts, retro-modern abstract art, architecture, and advertising. And all these inspirations manifest themselves in the different pieces I produce.
I really never approach my art very logically. It’s all fairly impulsive and obsessive. I just try to understand what it means when it’s complete. I like to think of my style as a super-nautural fusion of urban graffiti, mid-century modern abstracts, advertising design, and some kind of otherworldly information maps.
