Description Photograph of red rock structure located in the Valley of Fire State Park located near Las Vegas, Nevada. I see two distinct primitive facial expressions in these formations. They seem to be trying to communicate. Late in the day it can seem quite haunting, but I have not been able to capture that moment on film. This park is located within the much larger Mojave Desert.
Maxwell Phalen, Powhatan, VA Member Since September 2008 Artist Statement I was born in Charleston, WV. I majored in Business Administration at WV State College. I have resided in NY, OH, VA, WA, KY, IN, GA, NC and TN. I have always felt very close to nature and I am often sad that our earth is quickly becoming a thing of the past. I have always loved all the major sports. I played baseball, football, basketball, and ran track. I even played baseball into my early fifties in a senior league in VA. The only sports I am involved in now is bowling. I became hooked on photography when a very good friend gave me his old Yashica 35 mm camera. We were serving together in Vietnam and he had bought a newer camera and just thought I might enjoy taking pictures. Little did he know! I now have 7 or 8 cameras and I really do not want to know how many lenses. I live with the love of my life and our beloved 5 year old son, (my Buddy Icon). We breed, raise, and sell Golden Retriever Puppies. We currently have 11 Golden Retrievers, 1 horse, and 1 cat. Our time is almost totally consumed by family time, caring for the animals, gardening, and typical household chores. With free time we love to cookout or travel to a State or National Park.
