Artist Statement Art is a family tradition in my Old Kentucky Home. My mother, Juanita Watkins Moore, was an artist in oils along with my Uncle Johnny and others in my family. Growing up I thought everyone had easels in their homes. But even with all of this influence, I did not begin my art journey until much later in life.

My background is in nursing and real estate which took me in an entirely different direction from art. Having a child with a disability also took much of my creative time while she was growing up. (Sara is now pursuing her Master's Degree in Social Work --Not bad for someone who can't physically open a book herself!) I always felt God was guiding my life; asking me to be patient, preparing me for a time when I could begin to capture in paintings all that I had observed and felt over the years. I believe that time is now.

My husband was the one who encouraged me (forced me for sanity's sake!) to get out and take a painting class years ago. Once I began painting I developed a self-directed art education and have not stopped studying or painting since.

I find beauty and inspiration in many subjects so fortunately I never tire of painting. I love painting portraits, landscapes, cityscapes, animals—just about everything strikes my fancy at one time or another. I am an avid plein air painter and belong to Brushes with Nature, a Kentucky Watercolor Society group that meets 2 or 3 times a month to paint at various venues, rain or shine. Painting outside has enabled me to add rich atmospheric elements to all of my paintings including my studio portraits.

I was honored to have one of my paintings, "Looking Back" accepted into the 2012 American Watercolor Society's 145th Annual International Exhibition in New York and have also been juried into many shows and societies, including Kentucky Crafted and the Kentucky Guild of Artists and Craftsmen. I am a member of the Kentucky Watercolor Society and an associate member of the Portrait Society of America, the National Watercolor Society, American Watercolor Society and other professional groups.

I am now fully into a career as an artist and instructor. I teach several classes and private lessons each week and conduct occasional workshops. My workshop titles are "Painting Portraits from Photographs,” "Painting Children's Portraits from Photographs" and "Telling a Story—How to add Mood, Atmosphere and Emotion to your Landscape Paintings."

I paint daily in my home studio and post paintings and demos on my blog and Facebook page. For information regarding my paintings, classes and workshops or to sign up for my monthly art newsletter with art tips, please visit my website. Thanks for visiting!
