Can Balcioglu, San Francisco, California Member Since December 2006 Artist Statement Hi - and thanks for looking!
I am a local San Francisco photographer and I’ve been living in the city for a while, but I was actually born and raised in Istanbul, Turkey. I consider myself fortunate to have lived in two of the most beautiful cities in the world. I took an interest in photography a few years ago; and what began as a simple hobby turned into a serious passion in a short period of time. Living in San Francisco, there is no shortage of photo opportunities and I never tire of looking for a good shot.
My subjects are mostly landscapes and cityscapes. I try to catch those rare moments when the scenes we see everyday look out of the ordinary – sunrises and sunsets that produce dramatic skies before or after rains, nights lit by the full moon, or the foggy San Francisco days are great times when I am inspired to go out and shoot.
Some of my San Francisco photos were featured in San Francisco Chronicle 96 Hours section. Also, San Francisco Convention and Visitors Bureau purchased some of my prints, to be used in the promotion of the city.
