It is a basic standing posture with one foot on the ground or standing surface and the opposite leg bent so that the sole of the foot is on the inner thigh of the standing leg. The arms are usually held above the head with hands clasped or unclasped in order to stretch the spine. The pose is held for 20 to 60 seconds and then repeated for the opposite side. The Tree Pose is a balance pose emphasizing on alignment of the head, spine and hips.
