Esther Johnson, Central Mississippi Member Since July 2008 Artist Statement Throughout my life I have carried with me my childhood sense of magic and wonder of the natural world around me and I am inspired by nature to create. I am a self-taught, self-representing artist, rich with imagination. A woman, who is deeply connected with the earth and Spirit, I desire to represent these entities in my work through patterns of color and light. My constant craving is to create art that is pleasing to the eye and mind, and perhaps a deeper place, through the blending of fantasy and reality. My favorite medium, the digital realm, enables me to accomplish this. I work in many media including mixed media, collage, and most recently, photography. I am always learning new ways of creating and applying new ideas, but always with the same intent... to capture the imagination.
Growing up among the Live Oaks, Spanish Moss, and Stained Glass Windows of South Louisiana, I knew at a very young age that I was an artist. My inspiration comes from Mother Nature and Human Nature and the Spirit in all things. At 52 years of age, that child inside of me is still creating my artwork. Until computers were the norm, I drew and painted in every medium imaginable. I now use Photoshop, Painter, Vue de Esprit, and Poser as well as my own photography to create my images, sometimes, pixel by pixel, with the same amount of hard work, love and obsessiveness as the artist that uses a brush or pen. Often I will use found objects or I will make objects to scan or apply directly ,in the case of Collage, The computer has become a valuable tool for me and it allows the wildest dreams of my imagination to see the light of day.
I am very excited about the opportunity to show my work and offer it for sale on ImageKind. I hope you enjoy my work as much as I have enjoyed creating it.
