Don Westgate, Toronto Member Since November 2009 Artist Statement I am based in Toronto, Canada. A graduate of Ontario College of Art (now known as OCAD University), I have explored various visual mediums - drawing, painting, printmaking, etc. - and I find that photography best enables me to express my creativity. My interests in life are somewhat varied and this is reflected in my photography. It would be unusual to find me in the woods or at a race track, among other places, without my camera. In the wilderness, I look for subject matter in both the grand and minute scale. At a race, there is a wealth of sights to explore both on and off the track. In addition to race cars, I enjoy unique and high performance cars from any era. I also look for things to photograph in my urban environment, and am the creator of "Shoot Toronto". This is a walking tour for photographers of all levels. It has become a self-guided tour, using a guide book that can be downloaded from the internet at www.lulu.com/northpointimages.
For me, the camera remains the basic tool for creating an image. The advent of digital photography, however, has led me to explore digital image manipulation, primarily as a way of enhancing the image I made with the camera. My images remain, for the most part, recognizable as photographs.
