Matthew Kopytowski Member Since May 2013 Artist Statement Every since I was little, I have always been visual. From stock car graphics to the logo on my Shark clock radio, I have always been aware of line, shape and color. If typography is my first love, photography has grown to be my second. I have always taken photos, either the “Disk” camera or my Uncle’s Pantex K1000, but that was mostly for recording events or things I thought were interesting.
In recent years, the opportunity arose for me to do photography for my job and that prompted me to pursue photography as a creative outlet outside work.
Through my art education I have many influences. Some of the most prominent range from Abstract Expressionists like Clifford Still and Adolf Gottlieb to American Modernism painters like Edward Hopper and Charles Sheeler. With the latter having the most impact on what I enjoy to shoot, the “vernacular” or everyday.
