Description This is downtown Wickford,RI. There are many early American buildings and homes in this village. It also has an active shipyard and small fishing fleet. I painted this 24x36 canvas en plein air. The original oil is still available. For the last couple of years the painting has been used for advertising purposes for the gallery I exhibit in, the Wickford Cove Framing Gallery. http://www.wickfordcoveframinggallery.com/
Blaney Harris, Ledyard, CT Member Since July 2010 Artist Statement In plein air painting I feel as though I am a journalist, recording the moment; what my little portion of the world was like at the time. Therefore I don't like to edit to much in the studio after I come back from a painting session. I also enjoy working in a variety of mediums including pencil, watercolor, pastels and oils. My background in at-sea navigation, inspired by my 20 years in the Navy, and my appreciation of Naval history, has led me to paint oil paintings featuring the large sailing vessels of the past. Additionally, my paintings have been especially noted for their spectacular settings and treatment of light. Recently six of my works, including "New London Waterfront", have appeared on the Showtime series "Brotherhood".
