Li Fang, Calgary Member Since December 2010 Artist Statement Growing up in China during the 80's, I unveiled my passion for
art at a very young age. As soon as I was old enough to hold a pencil,
my imagination soared, filling me with an abundance of inspiration.
With tremendous support and encouragement from my family, I decided to
pursue a post secondary education in art at HuNan University, which
was just the beginning.
Taking a big risk at the age of 23, I set out on my own to Canada.
There, I would attend the Fine Arts School at Concordia University in
Montreal, where I later obtained my Master's degree in Art Education.
While progressing with my studies, I taught art part time at the
Saidye Bronfman Center of Art.
I feel honored to have had the opportunity to walk through some of the
many amazing museums and galleries, which exposed me to a variety of
styles and artistic techniques elevating my creativity to the next
level. The atmosphere and ambiance of the city was visually romantic
and stimulating. Overall, my experience in Montreal was unlike no other.
A few years later, it was time to take another risk and so I moved to
Alberta. I was drawn to the beautiful mountain landscapes of the west,
which is why I chose Calgary. After witnessing the mesmerizing beauty
of the Alberta skies I knew this was meant to be my home.
My life is like a painting. Each day is a stroke of inspiration. I
want to show people the beauty that I have seen, and encourage them to
actually see and feel the world around them, which is what I hope to
accomplish with my paintings. The style of which I have evolved and
developed my skills to today I hope will enable me to illustrate the
beauty of the world in many forms, from landscape, still life to portraits, and everything in between. It's to target my audience to not only think,
but to feel.
