Steve Zwickler Member Since April 2011 Artist Statement I have concentrated on nature photographs and most of what I am showing is very much as I saw it through the lens. I try to be alert to striking visual moments around me. However, some of the images are panoramas that result from digitally stitching together individual shots photographed adjacent to each other to capture a fuller visual field than would ordinarily be visible through the lens. The animals that appear among the images just happened to be in front of the lens at serendipitous moments. In one instance, a pair of subjects sat near each other in very different light so the original exposure left one too dark to see. Accordingly, some digital artifice was needed to make both images clearly visible at the same time. In another instance, digital adjustment was used to digitally remove an obscuring mist. In another, it was necessary to remove obstacles recently erected by man that obscured an otherwise beautiful natural scene. I try to produce an image that is true to what my eye perceived even if it means adjusting the technical image produced by the camera. Now there is a gallery I'm calling abstract but it's really natural images that suggest something other than what they are.
