Michael Murach, Eau Claire, Wisconsin Member Since January 2008 Artist Statement Michael Murach is a Midwestern USA native, who graduated from the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire in 1992 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Journalism. Twelve credits before graduation his life was changed dramatically. While performing in a diving exhibition as a member of the U.S. High Dive Team, he fell and bruised his spinal cord. This nickel-sized bruise left him with quadriplegia. After almost a year in three different hospitals, he went back to college to finish his degree. After graduating he commenced to build a new life, this time paralyzed from the neck down.
Michael always had an interest in art, however it was not until after his accident that he was able to fully explore all of the possibilities. His desire and passion for art was surprisingly rekindled with the purchase of a personal computer and a basic drawing program in 1993. His drawing and painting skills soon improved and expanded. Evolving technology allowed him to demonstrate his talents using many different medias. This evolving technology also enabled him to study under Sebastian Marquez, a well-known digital artist from Stockholm, Sweden. These lessons were performed via e-mail and on the World Wide Web.
Currently Michael uses a Wacom pressure sensitive tablet and the natural media emulation program ‘Painter’ to create his pieces. He uses Painter as an artist’s tool to produce one-of-a-kind images. He holds a stylus between his teeth to paint every stroke. Each of his paintings are original pieces. Mike’s favorite media is pen & ink with watercolor.
