Description High-contrast shot of yellow and orange daylilies. The bright colors of the blooms really pop against the cool blue-green pine trees in the background. The daylily has been nicknamed the 'Perfect Perennial', for it's dazzling array of colors, hardiness in a drought and ability to thrive in many zones. They thrive in full sun, but depending on the color they may require partial shade. Darker varieties will need shade because they will absorb the heat of the sun more than their lighter counterparts. Daylilies come in an amazing assortment of colors such as: yellow, pink, purple, red, and melon. They are not available in white or blue. They have a short blooming period and depending on the variety will bloom once bloom from early spring to the fall. Only one variety named aptly enough, the re-bloomer, will bloom twice a season.
Shawna Rowe Member Since July 2012 Artist Statement I grew up in a creative family who loved photography, music, art and random hiking adventures. That helped me to develop a love for nature and artistic expression early on. I've never limited myself to one particular medium but I do favor graphic shapes, bold colors and whimsical style. Whatever the medium, I try to include some or all of those elements in my work.
My family has always been a big inspiration and they feature in a series of satirical cartoons that I've done just for fun over the years. Each year I make a new cartoon to celebrate each of my daughter's birthdays. I've also made my own greeting cards for family members over the years.
Lately, I've been making detailed magazine collages. Each one is made of 100% recycled paper cut into tiny shapes and carefully applied much like paint onto canvas. It's an art-form that requires a lot of time and patience but I love this unusual way of creating. Thank you for visiting my gallery!
