Artist Statement Hello all! My name is Rachel! I am currently finishing up my undergrad degree in a B.F.A. I am a studio art major (my emphasis being photography) as well as a graphic design minor. In a few months I plan on making a journey into Graduate school where I will be pursuing a career in photography. I've shared my art with a small public forum, but am working on getting my work out there to a boarder audience. As a photographer, I am always seeking new ideas and inspiration. My eyes are always in "view-finder" mode as I call it; meaning that I am always looking for a new opportunity to click the shutter and create a masterpiece.
As a new and upcoming artist, I am always trying to dabble and experiement with many different subjects and techniques, although lately, most of my work has taken on an industrial feel with a swagger of geometrical shapes. Typically I shoot in black and white and my photos have very strong contrast. I adore the blackest blacks and whitest whites. Since I usually do not communicate with color, I always strive to achieve a strong sense of texture in my photography. If I decide to experiment (as I believe every fine artist should) and dabble with color, the color in my photographs are always very rich.
Whatever the subject or technique of my photo, I always strive to keep a strong feeling of conguity, balance and harmony. My photographys are a way of communicating my feelings, it is my outlet and my passion. I find that my ability to take an ordinary mundane (and perhaps even unappealing subject) and making it a piece of art is amazing. Life is about aesthetics. I find it fascinating that my art may someday find a place on your wall, and sincerely hope that you find it as enjoyable as I do.
