CaféPress, the San Mateo-Based developer of a service that allows people to create and sell user-generated, customized merchandise, said that it has acquired Imagekind, a Seattle-based site that sells user-generated framed art. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Founded in 2006, Imagekind offers framed art images from more than 50,000 established and emerging artists from all over the world. The companies called the deal a "perfect fit," since each provides customers with the opportunity to create, buy and sell their own unique merchandise.

The model is similar to CaféPress where the artists set their own price markup but it is focused specifically on prints. Prices of the artwork range from $5 to $500.

Seattle-based Imagekind, an online art framing and artwork marketplace, said Tuesday that it has been acquired by custom t-shirt and gifts maker CaféPress. According to Imagekind, it will continue to operate under the Imagekind website and brand. The reported price was between $15 and $20M, according to both VentureBeat and the Seattle P-I's John Cook, citing anonymous sources close to the deal. ...I uploaded my photo to Seattle-based ImageKind (www.imagekind.com) and ordered two test prints, one on Enhanced Matte Poster paper for $13 and one on Premium Photo Glossy stock for $18.50 (six other paper types are available, as well as two options for printing on canvas). The color quality for both were very good, with the glossy version boasting slightly richer tones than the print that appeared in the EPI gallery. ImageKind also provides a feature for you to sell your prints through its service.
