Alan Riik, Ponte Vedra Beach, FL
Member Since January 2014
Artist Statement Alan Riik, a North Florida local, grew up in Jacksonville Beach where he was immersed in the surf culture. In the 1980s, he was a top rated amateur surfer and he easily transitioned to professional status with sponsors including; Quiksilver Clothing, Ripcurl Wetsuits and Ripcurl Surfboards.

His interest in, and love for, art began at an early age and over the years he has explored graphic art, sculpture, and painting. Alan has always held a fascination for primitive art, spirituality, and invention. These interest combined with his background are reflected in his art work, in which these influences combined with simple elements exude a positive impression through his use of color.

He considers himself mainly self taught, but studied for a short time under Anthony Whiting and completed many art courses in college. Alan signs his artwork using his last name spelled with two consecutive ii’s which is distinctly Scandinavian. When looking at his signature, the space in between the two ii’s forms a Christian Cross which is a symbol of his faith.

Today as a husband, father, and avid surfer, he recognizes his blessings and tries to bring a positive attitude to everything he does; both in his personal life and at work.
