Description This ancient, top of Mingus Mountain (7900 ft elevation) tree presents an unusual apprearance of an alligator consuming a tree. This is caused by the wearing away of the tree's bark over time.
Tom Bell, Clarkdale, Arizona Member Since September 2010 Artist Statement I am a retired chemical engineer, choir director and jazz bassists.
My Wife of 56 years and I have moved from the side of a mountain along the Blue Ridge Parkway in Virginia to Central Arizona. The property in Virginia is named, "Eagle Wing". It overlooks the Virginia/North Carolina Piedmont. Thus the name of Eagle Wing was assigned. We had to move from it to Arizona for health reasons. We now reside in Clarkdale, AZ.
Photos taken from "Eagle Wing" are sometimes confused with pictures taken from a low flying aircraft, because we photograph jet fighters, Goodyear Blimp, C-130's and DEA helicopters as they pass below us. We also capture from above clouds surrounding Piedmont Mountains and scenes of total cloud cover below us.
Central Arizona offers many photo ops with nearby scenic places such as Sedona, The Grand Canyon, Monument Valley and the list goes on. We will make every effort to show you what we are stunned by in these new, desert surrounds.
Tom has set his photographs into three galleries, which recently have been updated with comments.
"The Front Porch" gallery is photos taken from our front deck and Gazebo at our past home, Eagle Wing. This collection shows what can be seen from Eagle Wing, which is at 2770 feet above sea level and looking out over the Virginia/North Carolina Piedmont which has an elevation of 1200 feet. For a frame of reference, this ~1500 foot elevation differential is about 300 feet higher than is the Empire State Building.
"The Backyard" gallery's name has been changed to "Scenic Places". It still shows scenes from or on the Blue Ridge Parkway which is our Eagle Wing's backyard. Recently photos from other places and counties have been added. We are currently adding our new location, AZ, pictures to this collection until we can get reorganized.
"Blue Ridge Framed Art" contains some of my favorites put into frames designed by me.
Keep checking back as we find the time to load more into these galleries.
