day for night
i was a moonchild cloistered deep away from sun emerging only when purple cyclamen shadows fell
silent yet loud as a thunderclap over the careless dominance of light
out onto the balcony i would glide swathed in satin and self-pity eyes full of silver sucked in from the moon
a statue standing silent watchful expectant
arms wide awaiting my dragon the fierce beast to whom i surrendered my heart whose predations i welcomed as what i deserved
and when i was finally drained
of everything but death
back in i would crawl eviscerated but able to sleep untroubled by gremlins untroubled by ghosts
something in the universe shifted i started craving the sun
i no longer haunt the balcony in the dead of night i heard the deathcries of my dragon as he starved i smiled
the sun's atomic kiss shoots through me as i stand on the balcony unclothed arms wide eyes closed and receive the sacrament of life ~ copyright 2014 RC deWinter One of the many balconies on the historic Beaux-Arts Wadsworth Mansion in Middletown, Connecticut is illuminated in summer moonlight.
