Description Not only does the Red Clover attract a wide variety of Butterflies, it is also known for its medical properties. www.webmd.com/vitamins-. This collage is part of a photo exhibit of my work, featuring a variety of my bird images as well as a selection of other wildlife images. This is a first for me, so I am quite excited to share my work for the very first time. For those of you in the area please drop by for a look. Here's a link for the details www.springfieldjcc.org/pages.cfm?gpt=14&g=202&ID=...In this collage, we see a Silver-spotted Skipper a territorial little guy who aggressively chases other butterflies away. One fact I found quite interesting is that it almost never visits yellow flowers.Next is a Clouded Sulphur, one of our more common butterflies. They are of medium size, up 2 inches wide. They often get moisture from puddles of water, mud and animal poop. I thought that was an interesting fact. You will often see many of them together collecting moisture. This is called puddling. The beauty in the bottom right corner is an Eastern Tiger Swallowtail, one of our earliest arrivals and one of the largest, measuring in at better than 4 inches across. When the caterpillars first hatch, their colors look a lot like bird poop. This helps camouflage them from predators.Lower left corner, we see a Black Swallowtail. Its flight is much quicker and it flies closer to the ground that other swallowtails do. In cold weather, they will hold their abdomens above their wings. This keeps them warm. Usually, Black Swallowtails live about 10 to 12 days. Some however, can live up to 35 to 40 days

I have always had an interest in photography & have been the guy with the camera at family events, etc. Now,that I have recently retired, I have the time to study & get serious with this wonderful craft. I am having a great time discovering & learning all the nuances of my newest camera, the Canon 7D. For most of my wildlife images I use the Canon Zoom Lens EF 100-400mm L series. My main interest is wildlife and nature photography, but I will also focus my attention on most any subject that moves me. In addition, I do enjoy manipulating images with Photoshop. I do hope you enjoy as much as I do the fine details of my photographic subjects!
