Description My daughter only wears one brand of shoe, the old school Converse All-Star. She has many old pairs worn out by time and use, but this particular pair holds a special place in her heart. She's drawn all over them to show her obsessive devotion to the band Nirvana and it's lead singer Kurt Cobain. Coincidentally, I did the same to my Converse when I was her age, different obsessions but still the same idea. The generation gap just got a little smaller.
Shawna Rowe Member Since July 2012 Artist Statement I grew up in a creative family who loved photography, music, art and random hiking adventures. That helped me to develop a love for nature and artistic expression early on. I've never limited myself to one particular medium but I do favor graphic shapes, bold colors and whimsical style. Whatever the medium, I try to include some or all of those elements in my work.
My family has always been a big inspiration and they feature in a series of satirical cartoons that I've done just for fun over the years. Each year I make a new cartoon to celebrate each of my daughter's birthdays. I've also made my own greeting cards for family members over the years.
Lately, I've been making detailed magazine collages. Each one is made of 100% recycled paper cut into tiny shapes and carefully applied much like paint onto canvas. It's an art-form that requires a lot of time and patience but I love this unusual way of creating. Thank you for visiting my gallery!
